Amuretic 2 is a potassium-sparing and thiazide diuretic combination used to help eliminate excess fluid from the body while maintaining normal potassium levels. It works by promoting urine production (diuresis), reducing swelling and blood pressure caused by fluid retention.
Each tablet combines two complementary agents:
Hydrochlorothiazide (thiazide diuretic): increases sodium and water excretion.
Amiloride (potassium-sparing diuretic): prevents potassium loss.
Amuretic 2 is indicated for:
Essential hypertension (high blood pressure).
Edema (fluid retention) due to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or corticosteroid therapy.
Prevention of hypokalemia (low potassium) in patients who develop it during treatment with thiazides alone.
Common:
Headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite.
Fatigue, dry mouth, mild stomach upset.
Increased urination.
Less common but important:
Muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat (signs of high potassium).
Skin rash or itching.
Electrolyte imbalance (low sodium, high potassium).
Joint pain, lightheadedness, dehydration.
Serious (seek medical help immediately):
Severe dizziness or fainting.
Slow or irregular heartbeat.
Unusual tiredness or weakness.
Signs of high potassium (hyperkalemia): tingling, muscle weakness, chest pain.
Dosage: As prescribed by your physician. Usually one tablet daily after meals.
Swallow whole with water; take at the same time each day.
Do not change or stop dosage without medical advice.
Avoid taking extra potassium supplements unless directed by your doctor.
If a dose is missed, take it soon as remembered—do not double doses.
Do not use in patients with:
High blood potassium (hyperkalemia).
Kidney impairment or anuria (no urine output).
Hypersensitivity to amiloride, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide derivatives.
Monitor potassium levels regularly.
Caution in elderly patients and those with diabetes or liver disease.
Avoid salt substitutes or supplements containing potassium.
Pregnancy & Lactation: Use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
Driving: May cause dizziness—avoid operating machinery.
Alcohol: May enhance dizziness and hypotension.
Active:
Amiloride Hydrochloride 5 mg
Hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg
Inactive (excipients):
Lactose monohydrate, starch, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, coloring agents, and purified water.
