Mupirocin 2% nasal ointment*
What Mupirocin is used for
Mupirocin is used topically to treat skin infections caused by bacteria.
Do not use Mupirocin
- If you’re allergic to the active substances or any other component of this medicine.
Warnings and precautions
- Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine.
- This medicine may cause skin allergies.
- Using this medicine for a long period of time may lead to a yeast infection (thrush).
- Do not use around the eyes or mouth.
Other medicines and Mupirocin
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
How to use Mupirocin
- Use as indicated by your doctor.
- This medicine is for external use only.
- Apply a small amount and rub gently on your skin 2-3 times a day.
- For the nasal ointment, apply a small amount to your finger or cotton bud and apply it in the nostril. Press the sides of your nose together to spread the ointment around the nostril.
Possible side effects
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Serious side effects:
- Allergic skin reactions: if you develop a skin reaction wash off the ointment and call your doctor.
- Severe diarrhea due to antibiotic use (rare).
How to store Mupirocin
- Store at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
- Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
*Dosage form and route of administration of Mupirocin 2% cream and 2% nasal ointment should be prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each individual patient.
