Product Description:



  • BETADINE®Ointment is indicated in for repeated application as an antiseptic, for a limited time, on damaged skin, such as decubitus ulcers (bedsore), ulcus cruris (leg ulcer), superficial wounds and bums, infected and superinfected dermatoses. 


Product Features:



  • Proven effective to rapidly kill bacteria, viruses and fungi preventing topical wound infections.

  • Long lasting wound protection up to 48 hours.

  • Enhances wound healing in burns and chronic wounds.


How to Use:



  • Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

  • Use in adults, elderly and children 


Children and adolescents 



  • Do not use in children under two years of age.


Pregnancy, breastfeeding



  • Povidone Iodine passes into the placenta and is secreted in breast milk. Povidone Iodine use should be avoided unless the potential benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the foetus and neonate or if a safer alternative is unavailable. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. 


Topical use:



  • Spread BETADINE® Ointment evenly over the area of damaged skin, 12 timed a day. If necessary, a dressing can be applied. 

  • If there is no improvement after several days (25 days) of regular application of BETADINE® Ointment, you should consult your doctor. Adults, Elderly and


Children: Topical use.



  • Spread the solution, undiluted into parts to be treated. After drying, an airpermeable film is formed, which can be easily washed off with water. The solution can be applied several times a day.


Children and adolescents



  • Do not use in children under 1 year of age. BETADINE® Standardised Antiseptic Solution should only be used under medical prescription in newborns and infants up to children between the age 1 and the age of 2 years.


Pregnancy, breastfeeding



  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, as your doctor or advice before taking this medicine. Povidone Iodine passes into the placenta and is secreted in breast milk. Povidone Iodine use should be avoided unless the potential benefit to the mother justifies the potential breast milk

  • For disinfection of the hands the procedure is as follows

  • Hygienic disinfection of the hands: 3ml undiluted – allow to work in for one minute.

  • BETADINE® Standardised Antiseptic solution can be used undiluted or diluted for rinsing and washing. For different uses, different dilutions are recommended. You may ask your doctor or your pharmacist about these. If there is no improvement of the symptoms after several days (25 days) of regular application, you should consult your doctor.


Cautions & Warnings



  • Do not use BETADINE® Ointment

  • If you are allergic to PovidoneIodine or any of the excipients of this medicine.

  • Ιn patients hypersensitive to iodine or any other of the ingredients.

  • Ιn patients with thyroid disorders (in particular nodular colloid goitre, endemic goitre and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).

  • Ιn patients taking lithium.

  • Ιn children under two years of age.

  • Before, during and after radioiodine administration.

  • In patients using products containing mercury.
