Cholib contains two active ingredients:
Fenofibrate (145 mg) – reduces triglycerides and raises HDL cholesterol.
Simvastatin (40 mg) – reduces total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol.
It is used in adults with mixed dyslipidemia who are at high cardiovascular risk and whose lipid levels cannot be adequately controlled by statin alone or by diet and lifestyle.
Dosage: One tablet once daily.
Timing: Take with food in the evening.
Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Continue your low-cholesterol diet during treatment.
Are allergic to fenofibrate, simvastatin, or any ingredients in the tablet.
Have liver disease, gallbladder disease, or pancreatitis (unless due to high triglycerides).
Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or female of childbearing potential not using contraception.
Are taking medicines that strongly interact with simvastatin (e.g. itraconazole, ketoconazole, HIV protease inhibitors, gemfibrozil, etc.).
Have kidney, liver, or thyroid issues.
Are over 70 years old.
Have unexplained muscle aches or a history of muscle problems, especially with statins or fibrates.
Drink excessive alcohol.
Have diabetes, low albumin, or low thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism).
Are taking other medications like anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, or other lipid-lowering drugs.
Your doctor will perform blood tests to monitor liver, kidney, and muscle enzymes before and during treatment.
Common (up to 1 in 10):
Headache
Digestive symptoms: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain
Increased liver enzymes
Uncommon (up to 1 in 100):
Muscle cramps or weakness
Skin rash or itching
Dizziness or fatigue
Gallstones
Elevated creatinine or urea in blood
Rare but serious:
Muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis) – a medical emergency
Liver inflammation or jaundice
Pancreatitis
Severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
Interstitial lung disease
Seek medical help immediately if you experience:
Muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness
Yellowing of the skin or eyes
Dark-colored urine
Severe allergic reactions (e.g., facial swelling, breathing difficulty)
