- Fampyra is used to improve walking ability in adult patients with multiple sclerosis who have difficulty walking.
- Fampyra contains the active ingredient fampridine, which belongs to a group of medicines called potassium channel blockers.
- These medicines prevent the release of potassium, among other things, from nerve cells damaged by multiple sclerosis (MS).
- This medicine is thought to work by normalizing nerve signaling, thereby improving the reduced walking ability caused by MS.
How to use:
- The doctor will initially prescribe the medication for you for 2 to 4 weeks.
- After 2 to 4 weeks and then at regular intervals, he will assess the improvement in walking ability and decide on further treatment.
- The usual dose is one extended-release tablet in the morning and one extended-release tablet in the evening (12 hours apart).
- Do not take more than two extended-release tablets per day.
- The interval between two prolonged-release tablets must be 12 hours.
- Do not take the extended-release tablets more often than every 12 hours.
Caution & Warnings:
- May cause seizures, especially in patients with a history of seizures
- Store at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F)
