What Insulin Human Isophane is used for:

• Insulin Human Isophane is a man-made fast acting insulin that is used to control high blood sugar in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Do not use Insulin Human Isophane:

• If you are having an episode of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). 


• If you have an allergy to human insulin or any of the ingredients in Insulin Human Isophane. 

Warnings and Precautions:

• Tell your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions including, if you: 


• have liver or kidney problems. 


• have heart failure or other heart problems

Possible side effects of Insulin Human Isophane:

Insulin Human Isophane can cause serious side effects.

 These side effects happen only to a small number of people and include:

• low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)


• severe allergic reaction 


• low potassium in your blood (hypokalemia). 


• heart failure

Other medicines and Insulin Human Isophane:

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take especially ones called:

• TZDs (thiazolidinediones), including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, or herbal supplements.

How to use Insulin Human Isophane:

• Use Insulin Human Isophane exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to. 


• Use Insulin Human Isophane 30 minutes before eating a meal. 


• Check your insulin label each time you give your injection to make sure you are using the correct insulin. 


• Inject Insulin Human Isophane under the skin (subcutaneously) of your upper legs (thighs), upper arms, buttocks or stomach area (abdomen). Do not inject Insulin Human Isophane into your vein (intravenously) or muscle (intramuscularly). 


• Change (rotate) your injection sites within the area you choose with each dose to reduce your risk of getting lipodystrophy (pits in skin or thickened skin) and localized cutaneous amyloidosis (skin with lumps) at the injection sites. 

How to store Insulin Human Isophane:

• All unopened vials: Store all unopened vials in the refrigerator at 36° to 46°F (2° to 8°C). Do not freeze.


• Keep Insulin Human Isophane and all medicines out of reach of children.
