What Linex Adult is and what it is used for

• Linex Adult is a probiotic and prebiotic which means that it contains microbes beneficial to your health in appropriate amount. Linex Adult contains two strains of lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5 and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12) which help establish and maintain the equilibrium and the function of microbes in your intestines (intestinal microflora). Linex Adult contains prebiotics: maltodextrin, inulin and oligofructose.


• Microbes are naturally present in the small and large intestine. They maintain the acid-base balance required for the normal functioning of digestive enzymes, the immune system and peristalsis (movement of the bowels). They furthermore prevent reproduction of harmful microbes.


• The lactic acid bacteria in Linex Adult are lyophilized (i.e., freeze-dried). This enables Linex Adult to be stored at room temperature while preserving the shape and activity of bacteria. Linex Adult can be used to restore and maintain normal gastro-intestinal microflora.


• Taking probiotics or lactic acid bacteria effectively reduces the incidence and severity of mild to moderate gastrointestinal disturbances (especially diarrhea) resulting from the destruction of normal intestinal microflora and maintains normal bowel motility.

 What you need to know before you take Linex Adult

• DO NOT TAKE Linex Adult if you are allergic to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Important warning for all age groups:

• In the treatment of diarrhea, the first and most important measure is replacement of the lost fluid and salts, which is particularly important in pre-existing disease affecting fluid and electrolyte balance.


• Linex Adult with food and drink


• Linex Adult should preferably be taken during meals in order to ensure maximum efficacy of the medicine.


• Linex Adult contains sugars: glucose, fructose, sucrose and possibly lactose residues.


• If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

How to take Linex Adult

Method of administration:

• If taking Linex Adult together with antibiotics, we recommend that you take Linex Adult capsules at least 3 hours after taking the antibiotic.
• Do not take Linex Adult capsules together with alcohol drinks or hot beverages.
• For those who cannot swallow or do not know how to swallow the capsule, open the capsule and pour its contents (powder) onto a spoon. Add just enough liquid to the powder so it can be swallowed.

Dosage and duration of treatment:

• Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 capsule one to three times a day (e.g., in the morning, at noon, and in the evening, depending on the severity of complaints). You can take Linex until symptoms improve. If diarrhea does not improve after 2 days of taking Linex Adult you must see a doctor. During treatment of diarrhea replacement of lost fluid and salts is essential.

Possible Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects from lactic acid bacteria are very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people). Hypersensitivity reactions may appear.
