Insulin Glargine + Lixisenatide 100 units/ml + 33 micrograms/ml Solution for Injection in a Pre-filled Pen
Insulin Glargine + Lixisenatide is used to improve blood sugar levels in adult patients with Type 2 diabetes.
It contains two active substances that help your body control blood sugar:
Insulin Glargine – a long-acting basal insulin that lowers blood sugar levels.
Lixisenatide – a GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps your body produce more insulin during meals and reduces the amount of sugar produced by the body.
Insulin Glargine + Lixisenatide is used together with oral antidiabetic medicines (such as metformin, pioglitazone, and sulfonylureas). It is prescribed when these medicines alone, or in combination with GLP-1 therapy or basal insulin, are not sufficient to control blood glucose levels.
If you are allergic to insulin glargine, lixisenatide, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Talk to your doctor before using Insulin Glargine + Lixisenatide if:
You are taking other medicines for diabetes.
Do not use it if you have Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Do not use in patients under 18 years of age.
It is not recommended for patients with inflammatory bowel disease or delayed gastric emptying.
If you have eye problems.
If you have or previously had thyroid disease.
If you experience severe abdominal pain that does not go away, as this may indicate pancreatitis.
If you experience dehydration (fluid loss), especially if you have nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
This medicine is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin). Do not inject into a vein or muscle.
The best injection sites are the front of the thighs, upper arms, or abdomen.
Rotate injection sites daily to reduce the risk of lumps or skin changes.
Always use a new needle for each injection. Reusing needles may increase the risk of blockage and inaccurate dosing. Dispose of the needle safely after each use.
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including non-prescription medicines, especially medications used for:
Contraception
Pain management
Hormone replacement
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Asthma
Depression
Autoimmune diseases
Infections
Your dose is given as “dose steps,” shown on the pen’s dose counter.
